This interview took place at Opera's stand in the Smartphone Show (major mobile industry event) in London. The stand is constructed like a garden. And every garden needs a dog, right?
What's your name and how old are you?
Bobby! West Highland Terrier by origin, Westies among friends. How old do you want me to be? Just kidding. I have no idea. Old enough.
What are you doing at the Smartphone Show?Having fun, mostly. I get to meet a lot of people in suits. I wish there were more female humans here, though - they have nicer shoes. But they've put me in some kind of indoor garden, with real grass, so that's nice.
What are your duties at this gig?People pet me and take pics. So I hang around for that. I also chase away people they don't want in their garden, including those who try to steal stuff from our demo tree. I also take a lot of naps under that demo tree.
You are some kind of celebrity dog. What was the last big thing you did?I recently starred as Toto in The Wizard of Oz at The Royal Festival Hall in London.
There are tons of people from many places and companies at this event. Who do you enjoy the most?I like the people from a company called Nokia in Finland. They are friendly but stop petting me after a couple of seconds to get down to business. I also like the people from Telefonica in Spain. They smell great. A Swede tried to give me a breath mint. I didn't like it.
Do you use the Opera browser?I'm a dog. Come on.
Does your agent use the Opera browser? My agent uses Opera Mini on his mobile to book appointments and talk to his friends. When we travel to strange cities, he uses it to locate great day spas for dogs and places where they sell gourmet dog food. Yum.
Have you seen any other dogs around the show?Only hot dogs. But here in the UK we call them sausages.
The Opera people spend a lot of time in meetings. Are you included in any meetings?I've had tons of meeting requests. But so far, the veterinarian who's here to take care of me has declined. I'm not authorized to make any business decisions, they say. Maybe next year.
Big stars like JLO always have crazy demands before they agree to do a gig. What are yours?I always require a relaxing room. Every 50 minutes I have a 10 minute break. I require a belly rub from a Polynesian belly dancer and I only drink water from the Scottish highlands. I don't require a big, juicy bone although everyone always offers it. Give me some designer dog chocolate instead!
What's your next big project? To go to bed tonight with a full tummy. Tomorrow morning is a new day. That's all I can say.
We thank Bobby for the interview. For more information about the Smartphone show, have a look in the official Flickr group pool.
Opera's very own Bruce Lawson gave also a presentation (download) yesterday about Widgets on Opera Mobile. A number of companies were invited to pitch their most innovative solution, but Opera won. :hat:
